Homes of Heroes

Paris Ontario is home to many veterans who have served during the great wars of WW I and WW II.

This tradition continued further as residents of Paris continued to join the Canadian Armed Forces; Serving in the Korean War, peacekeeping operations, The War in Afghanistan, and continue to serve today.

Homes of Heroes

Is a project that aims to collect, and share the stories of Paris' veterans to show that those who served and serve Canada are our neighbours

What is Homes of Heroes?

Homes of Heroes is an organization striving to honour and thank the veterans of Paris Ontario.

When we think of the military these days, we think of soldiers fighting in other countries, or of wars that happened long ago, but that is not the whole picture. We hope to honour veterans of the two World Wars, but also younger veterans, many still living in Paris, who also deserve our thanks and recognition.

The Canadian military has served proudly in Korea and Afghanistan, and also in numerous UN peacekeeping operations, in places like Bosnia and Cyprus, Gaza, and Rwanda. Some are serving right now, in the NATO mission in Latvia. Others are standing guard at home, and have assisted Canadians in times of fire and flood.

They all deserve our honour and our thanks.

What is our goal?

In addition to gathering and sharing the stories of those who served who come from Paris Ontario; Our goal is to build recognition for veterans by also displaying signs in front of former and current homes of veterans as Rememberance Day approaches, this is to better recognize the number of neighbours and community members who have served.

How will it work?

Our first setup is to gather information and stories of veterans to create profiles to share.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 29, and the Paris Museum & Historical Society have provided an excellent starting point for finding veterans from Paris.
However we call to the community to share the stories of those who served.

We believe it is the community, families, and friends of those who served that can help us fill the gaps of archives and records, and may be able to best share their stories, especially of those who are not able.

Then as Remembrance Day approaches, signs will be placed at participating homes directing the public to visit this site to view a profile of the veteran(s) who lived in that home.

After Remembrance Day the this site and all of the profiles will still be accessible, and offer the stories and profiles of the veterans of Paris ON.
