30 Dumfries Street
Coder Richard “Dick” Cooper Bosworth
Dick was the younger son of Mr. and Mrs. George and Katharine Bosworth. The family lived at 30 Dumfries Street in Paris. He received his education at Paris High School and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. After school he worked at the service station with his father, who survived Dick but passed away in September 1945.
Dick enlisted with the Royal Canadian Naval Voluntary Reserve in Hamilton on January 29 1943. After training in Charlottetown, Halifax and Ste.Hyacinthe, Quebec, he was stationed overseas in March 1944. He was stationed for several months on HMCS Niobe at Greenock, Scotland until he went on active duty.
Dick was lost at sea when HMCS Alberni struck a magnetic mine in the English Channel. It was his first trip on this corvette which left port at 6:00 a.m. and the fatal blast occurred just five hours later. He was with his messmates below decks and had no opportunity to escape. His name is listed on the Halifax Memorial Monument.
