Private Lawrence “Gyp” Mostyn England

Lawrence was born in Paris in 1915 and was known as Gyp all his life. His family, led by Sergeant William Maurice England, who fought in WWI, lived on Queen Street. Before the Second World War, Gyp worked as a labourer in the textile industry. In 1939, before going overseas to fight, he married Ivy Irene Heeman, also from Paris. The couple raised two sons in their home at 8 Washington Street. He was once elected as Mayor of Paris. He died at the age of 47 and is buried in the Paris Cemetery.
