Louis Bolton “Paddy” Dick
Paddy was born in Bally Henry, Belfast, Antrim, North Ireland on May 17, 1914.
Paddy married Mary Margaret Hendry on January 1,1940, in Tain Scotland. He enlisted in the RAF Air Sea Rescue on April 10,1942 and served until his discharge on April 3, 1944, as a Flight Sergeant on the Indian Ocean and in Africa and India. For his service Paddy received the Defence Medal, the Atlantic Star and the 1939-1945 Star.
In May 1954, Paddy immigrated to Canada, arriving in Halifax before Mary Margaret and their children, Gerald, Sally and Dugald...the family eventually settling in Weyburn Saskatchewan. From here Paddy travelled to Kitimat British Columbia for work as a linesman…the same profession he held in Tain.
In 1956, the family moved to Acton, Ont. to join their friends Ian and Lucy Ross and Paddy began working at Microplastics Building Products, where he remained until his retirement. A dedicated advocate for his fellow workers, he served as Union President for more than 25 years.
Paddy was an active member of both the British Legion and the Royal Canadian Legion-Acton Branch. He was a Legion Choralier and proudly served as a mortgage guarantor to help fund the construction of the new Acton Legion building. Throughout his years in Acton, Paddy lived on Churchill Rd North and then at 57 Young St and finally at 175 Longfield Rd, where he spent his later years.
Paddy died on October 20, 1983 and his ashes spread in some of his favourite places.
A true Hero. His story lives on. *Information submitted to Homes of Heroes Halton Hills by Dugald Dick.
