563 Main St.
Gord Graham
Gord was a Glen Williams boy, born to Bert Graham and Eva Snyder on June 14, 1920. Gord lived with his family at 563 Main Street, Glen Williams.
As was typical for folks from “The Glen”, Gord attended elementary school there, before venturing into Georgetown for High School. After completing school Gord started at Beaumont Knitting Mills where he worked until enlisting in the service, joining the Prince of Wales/Lincoln and Welland Regiment.
Little is known of Gord’s military service, but we do know that upon his return from overseas, Gord was presented, on June 21, 1946 with a small token of cash (likely $10) and a personally engraved pocket watch.
Once home, Gord returned to work as a knitting mechanic at the Beaumont Knitting Mills. On September 26, 1970 Gord married Sylvia Norton also of the Glen.
Gord passed away on February 28,1989 and is buried in the Glen Williams Cemetery.
Truly a Canadian Hero. His story lives on. Information provided through personal interviews with Sylvia Norton Graham and Barry Timleck.
