William Robert Korzack

Wanel (William) was born December 25, 1913 in Teulon Manitoba, the son of George and Anna. The 1916 Census of Manitoba reveals that George and Anna were Ukrainian immigrants who had arrived in Canada in 1905 and 1911 respectively and that George was a farmer. George and Anna added to their family with the birth of Alex in 1916, Peter in 1920 and Mary in 1922. The 1931 Census shows William continuing to live in Selkirk Manitoba but this time as a 16 year old boarder/student, along with younger brothers Richard and Peter at the United Church Boys Home. By the time 1940 rolls around William is living at Camp Borden, but he lists his home as Glen Williams. His occupation is listed as soldier and he is married to Edna Eudora Davison of Glen Williams, who is a knitter.
Little known at this time of William’s military experiences.
According to the Town of Halton Hills Notice of Intention to Designate, Edna and William acquired the property at 510 Main St. Glen Williams in 1941, William being described as a Second World War veteran and Edna as actively involved in local civic and church life. It is noted that William also served as a trustee for the Esquesing School Board and led numerous initiatives at St. Alban’s Church, while Edna contributed as the church’s Envelope Secretary.
William died on September 13, 1981 at the age of 67 and is buried at the Glen Williams Cemetery.
Truly a Canadian Hero. His story lives on. Information obtained from Ancestry.ca and the Town of Halton Hills Notice Of Intention To Designate.
