John St

Ronald Latimer

The eldest son of Donald (WW1) and Tryphosa, Ronald was born in 1925. He had two younger brothers George (killed in action WW2) and Douglas (WW2) and a sister Joan. Little is known about Roanld’s early years except that his mother died when he was just fourteen years old, his father eventually remarrying a woman who was just ten years older than Ronald himself was. When his mother died the family was living on John St, Georgetown (currently 27 Mill St.)

Nothing is known at this time about Ronald’s military experiences other than he was a member of the RCAF.

Ronald married Ruth Audrey Norton on June 26, 1943 at the Presbyterian Manse in the Village of Limehouse and their wedding announcement reported that they planned to live in Georgetown. The 1945 Rural List of Electors identifies him as a labourer living in Limehouse.

Ronald died in Limehouse in 2004 and is buried at the Glen Williams Cemetery, Glen Williams. He is commemorated on the Honour Roll at Knox Presbyterian Church, Georgetown.

Truly a Canadian Hero. His story lives on.
