253 Mill St. East

John Andrew McLellan

John was the second oldest boy in the McLellan family of nine. Four boys and five girls born to David and Isabelle McLellan. The family resided at 253 Mill St. East in Acton from the 1940’s to 1960’s.

When John enlisted in the army, he was only in basic training. He had a heart murmur as a result of having had rheumatic fever as a child and so was unable to continue. John still served the army in World War 2 as a Corporal, but he never left Ontario.

John married Madolyn Shellington on September 14, 1946 and together they raised four children: Lois, David, Joan and Frank. John worked at Firestone Tire in Hamilton for over 25 years as well working his own farm.

John died on February 5, 1976, at the young age of 50, because of a vehicle accident. He is buried at Winona “The Fifty” Cemetery in Winona, Ont.
