Joseph Robert McMenemy

Born in Glen Williams in 1923, to Joseph McMenemy Sr. and Mary Ellen Given, Joe attended school in the Glen and high school at Georgetown High. He then worked at Alliance Paper until he turned eighteen at which time he was laid off and joined the army.

Joe served with the 12th Field Artillery overseas and was discharged in 1945. Upon his return from the service, Joe married Margaret Hornby and returned to work at Alliance Paper. The couple rented an apartment on Queen St., then rented a house at 57 Normandy Blvd, before buying the same house and then in 1979 moved to 89 Prince Charles St. Georgetown.

Joseph died on June 25, 1983 at the age of 59 and is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Georgetown. Truly a Canadian Hero. His story lives on.
