James Herriman

James Herriman was born on Grand River Street South in Paris, to Tom and Mabel Herriman. During World War II, James served in Italy and Germany; he was wounded three times but continued to fight.
While visiting his aunt Daisy in England, James met Lillian Newell from Leicester, England. The two would marry in England, and Lillian would come to Canada after the war. They did not travel to Canada together, James returned to Canada first. Lillian would travel later, crossing the Atlantic by ship to Halifax, then travelling by train to Paris. They lived on Grand River St South with James’ parents until a home could be secured.
James purchased a home at 1 Churchill Drive for $1200. This area which is sometimes called the “Victoria Survey” which was wartime houses built for returning veterans. There they raised 4 children, and Today, James’ great-grandson continues to call 1 Churchill Drive his home.
