9 Main Street

Ordinance Telegraphist Edward “Ted” Thomas Padden

Ted was born in 1916 in Wentworth Ontario. His family, headed by Joseph Padden and Christina Frey, moved to Paris when Ted was a teenager. The family lived at 9 Main Street. Ted enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy and worked as a telegraphist during the Second World War. In 1943, he married Helen Wraight of Atwood Ontario, a young widow whose previous husband, William James Pamplin of Paris, who had served in the Royal Canadian Medical Corps. He was aboard ship bringing injured soldiers back to Canada when he was taken ill. He later died in hospital in London Ontario. Ted and Helen were married for 43 years until Helen’s death.

They had two children together and lived at 49 Church Street in Paris. Ted worked as a salesman for the Turner Wine Company of Brantford. He lived to the age of 88 and is buried with Helen in the Sacred heart Catholic Cemetery in Paris.
