Alfred Gibbons

Alfred Thomas was the son of WW1 veteran Alfred Gibbons and Georgia May O’Connor. He grew up at 69 West River Street and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. He was a keen sports fan and enjoyed collecting foreign currency. He was attending Paris District High School when the Second World War broke out, and he left school to enlist with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry.

Alfred was killed in action in the Dieppe Raid of 1942.

For his sacrifice, Alfred is remembered on the Brookwood Memorial in England and on the cenotaph at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
