Herbert Franklin Bethune
Herbert Franklin Bethune along with his twin brother Harold Francis, were born in March 1926.
Herbert enlisted with his brother in 1942. He had been employed as a spinner at Penmen’s factory. He also rose to the rank of corporal with the D and H Rifles, but Herbert he remained in the military longer than Harold.
He had transferred from the D and H Rifles to the Royal Highland Light Infantry and ended up in Germany in the final days of the war in Europe. He was scheduled for occupation service in Germany but volunteered instead for duty in the Pacific. He returned home in March, 1945.
