30 Burwell Street

Charles Elson

James Frederick Elson and Emily Maud Hobbs emigrated from England and Scotland respectively and lived for a time in Ayr Ontario. Three of their sons were born in Ayr, but by the time they entered school, the family had moved to 30 Burwell Street in Paris. All four of their sons were destined for a military life.

Charles Elson was born in Ayr in 1920. His photo is in the 1936 Yearbook of Paris High School. Like his brother, he enlisted overseas, but with the British Marines. And like his older brother, he too got married during the war, to Christina Haig Elliot, in Hawick Scotland. But unlike his older brother, he survived the Second World War. He and Christina had one son born in Scotland, and three more children born back in Canada. Charles was a long-time employee of Weston Foods. Christina died at the age of 69, and Charles remarried, to Pearl Mary Knill. Charles died in the Brantford General hospital in 2008 at the age of 87 and is buried in the Paris Cemetery.
