30 Burwell Street
Edward Arthur Elson
James Frederick Elson and Emily Maud Hobbs emigrated from England and Scotland respectively and lived for a time in Ayr Ontario. Three of their sons were born in Ayr, but by the time they entered school, the family had moved to 30 Burwell Street in Paris. All four of their sons were destined for a military life.
Edward Arthur Elson, youngest of his four brother, was born in Paris in 1926. He attended Paris High School and married Evelyn Foulos in Brantford at the age of 23.
The following year, he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force and served at the Canadian Forces Base Trenton. But he was killed, along with a fellow officer, when their Expeditor aircraft crash landed, six miles from their destination at Camp Borden. Two witnesses believed that one wing of the aircraft had come off before it plunged to the earth, but both wings could be seen in the wreckage.
After his death, Flight Lieutenant Elson was awarded a General Service Medal and a Volunteer Service Medal. He is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Brantford.
