Flight Lieutenant Gordon A. Stewart
Gordon was the oldest son of Cornelius and Elizabeth Stewart, who went on to have 11 children. Gordon was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan in 1913. The young family moved to Battle River, Alberta when Gordon was just two years old. Russell was born in Compeer Alberta in 1916 and was 9 years old when the family moved to Paris. They first rented on Homestead Road before moving to 67 Capron Street. At this time, Cornelius was a machinist at Penman’s.
After completing school, Gordon became a knitter with Penman’s Company. When Canada entered WW2, he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force and rose to the rank of Flight Lieutenant. He survived the war and married Elizabeth Dora Postello in Kensington, London, England in 1945. The couple had two sons, Gordon and Gary. Gordon Stewart died at 67 years of age and is buried in Barrie, Ontario.
