Leslie “Red” Archibald Watts

The Watts family lived at 15 Railway Street. Oliver and Florence May Watts had nine sons, and six of them served in the Second World War.

Leslie “Red” Archibald Watts, born in 1923. He enlisted in the army at 17, lying about his age. He served with the Canadian Armoured Car Regiment, Royal Canadian Dragoons, like his two older brothers. He worked first as a dispatch rider, delivering messages and maps on motorcycle, and then later with the fighting troops through Italy. He met his future wife, Enid Kenward, while on leave in England. They married in Sussex, England in 1945, but she was able to join him in Canada in 1946 with their son Leslie. They lived briefly at 13 Spruce Street, returned to England, and then came back to Paris. Red died at 94 and buried in Paris Cemetery.
