Mervin “Barney” Henry Watts

The Watts family lived at 15 Railway Street. Oliver and Florence May Watts had nine sons, and six of them served in the Second World War.

Mervin “Barney” Henry Watts was the eldest brother, born in 1912. He attended school until he was 13 years old, and then went to work at Sanderson-Harold Company, to help support his family. He also trapped animals for the furs which he sold to dealers. From 1941 to 1946,he served in the Canadian Armoured Car Division of the Royal Canadian Dragoons. While he was overseas, he met and married Cornelia Koster in Haalem, Holland. He survived the war and returned to Paris and to Sanderson-Harold. He worked as a stationary engineer and might watchman. He worked for the company for over 40 years. He is buried in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Paris.
